Iva Đurić

Born in Zagreb, October 20, 1979.

After studying painting at the School of Applied Arts and Design, Iva enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb where she is a graduate student in the painting faculty's teaching department.

She won a scholarship to the Brno Faculty of Arts Video Atelier, where she is making an art film entitled "Colors". The movie is about color frequencies and their influence on life.

She lives and works in Zagreb, with a studio at Žerjavićeva 19.

Artist's statement:
The world is an image that a person creates with his or her thoughts. This image is an indicator of the inner condition of the spirit and soul. It does not represent only recognizable things from the tangible world and it does not imitate, but tries to show also what is invisible and intangible, what is hidden, experienced and sensual. Emotions are spontaneous and impulsive, and I articulate them through free moves and reflexive painting of the moment. Strong color contrasts and the play of light and shadow point to constant changes in life and the dynamics of the world we live in. Approaching the motif, desiring to paint its essence, involves surrendering to the movement of the line, the flutter and the impulse of life. Reading such a painter's handwriting provides endless possibilities for interpretation.
