This must be one of the reasons why Dejana won the Rector's Award from the university in her home town of Rijeka: the prize is awarded every five years to the best students of their generation. Dejana initially studied general management at the Faculty of Economics. Various scholarships took her to Germany, Austria and the UK, and she completed internships at Henkel and the European Parliament.

She decided on a career in consultancy after spending two and a half years working at a cosmetics distributor, first as a brand manager, and then as head of marketing. Dejana finished her MBA at the University of Zagreb.

In her leisure time, especially during summer she enjoys wind surfing.
