Opatija - the only Croatian destination with year-round tourist season
Most visited destinations in Croatia are geographically highly concentrated, 80% of destinations are located in Istria and Kvarner.
The longest season with all the prerequisites for sustainable tourism was noted in Opatija. In the period between 2001 and 2008 tourist arrivals grew by CAGR 5.3% at the country level, and by CAGR 4.4% at the level of the top 10 destinations. In the first eight months of 2009, the largest destinations have reported a smaller decline in the number of tourist arrivals compared to the rest of Croatia. Apart from Opatija and Dubrovnik all Croatian destinations recorded poor seasonality (the difference between the number of tourist arrivals in the summer and winter months).
According to the number of tourist arrivals, tourist arrivals growth and seasonality, destinations with best performance are Dubrovnik, Opatija and Zadar.
